A local research group is set to launch the first-ever gene editing study for severe cholesterol conditions in the United States, aiming to permanently lower the disease's cholesterol levels. The study will be led by Dr. Michael Koren from the Encore Research Group of Jacksonville Center for Clinical Research and will be monitored for 15 years. This is the first time a therapy has aimed to reverse the underlying problem rather than merely treat its symptoms.
