Taxpayer advocates back Trump push for medical price transparency in federal plans

Taxpayer advocates are praising the Trump administration for its efforts to promote medical price transparency in federal employee health-care plans. The Office of Personnel Management has requested comments from industry leaders and health-health-care experts on claims data for federal employees health insurance plans. Trent England, executive director of Save Our States, said that the system is opaque and does not provide appropriate access to the most competitive prices in the market. He warned that open access to claims data could difference between paying $20,000 or $12,000 for the same procedure. The White House's pursuit of claims data from insurance companies could also impact private health care insurers, as well as hospitals providing upfront cost assessments more often. Industry leaders have pushed back against the administration's efforts, arguing that widespread publication of such data could violate patient privacy.
