Oakland police have released a nearly 12-minute video of the mid-October incident where former NFL player Doug Martin died in officers' custody. The footage, which includes only a fraction of the body-worn camera footage recorded by officers, raises new questions about Martin's death. The video was released following warnings from Martin's family that he was under a mental health crisis. The Oakland Police Department refused to release any footage of the incident in December, claiming it does not meet the definition of a ‘critical incident’ under AB 748, the law signed in 2019 to increase public access to such footage. The Alameda County coroner’s bureau has yet to release Martin’ autopsy or toxicology report.
