Coast Guard member from N.J. who saved an injured motorcyclist receives national recognition

Cody Dmochowski, a U.S. Coast Guardsman from New Jersey, has been recognized as a Service Member of the Year for his heroic efforts to save an injured motorcyclist after witnessing a serious motorcycle crash in 2025. His heroic life-saving efforts while off-duty earned him a Coast Guard Achievement Medal and he was later named a USO Coast Guardman of 2026. The victim, who sustained a compound fracture and severe blood loss, made a full recovery within two weeks of the accident and was saved by Dmachowski. Dmichowski joined the Coast Guard six years ago after his father, a Navy veteran, suggested it.
