Issa Rae, known for her HBO series Insecure, has expressed concern over Hollywood's lack of diversity, stating that the industry is in an identity crisis. She cited a shift from social media creators to meaningful storytellers and a shift towards more mainstream representation. Rae also revealed that execs of color have told her they cannot cosign for fear of losing their jobs due to the perceived lack of representation in the industry. She said that people are no longer investing in projects that are about African-American women, they need to be smarter about how to package and market projects.
