Mets undergoing expected defense learning curve at first, third base

The New York Mets are facing a defensive learning curve this season, with Bo Bichette and Jorge Polanco expected to struggle in the team's 4-2 win over the Pirates at Citi Field. Both players have limited experience at third base and have little experience at first base. Manager Carlos Mendoza noted that further reps will help them. The team's win was part of a nine-day run of nine games for the Mets, with the team planning to cycle through DHs as soon as Sunday. It is likely that Mark Vientos will not start his first game until the following Wednesday. The Mets will open their season against five straight righty starting pitchers, with no lefty until the final game of their series in St. Louis.
