A panel of Senators, former athletes, and college sports officials met to discuss the impact of name, image and likeness deals and the transfer portal on college athletics. The roundtable was hosted by Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, with no decisions made. The panel suggested the possibility of classifying student athletes as employees or having schools pay players directly. Former LSU basketball player Collis Temple said the current system is harming student athletes and that it is difficult to reverse. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., a former college football coach, said that universities should direct a portion of existing revenue towards players, citing coaching salaries as an example of misallocated funds.
