Buffer zones only limit free speech

New York City and state lawmakers are pushing legislation to create "no-speech zones," known as "buffer zones," where protest is forbidden. These zones could ban protest on thousands of blocks across the state and could lead to arrests for marchers who have demonstrated against the Trump regime. Critics argue that these zones are necessary to protect New Yorkers' ability to practice their faiths and to combat rising antisemitism. However, the state already has laws against obstruction, intimidation, interference, violence, or threatening behavior at a house of worship or reproductive health clinics. The Department of Justice is already using existing statutes to target New York demonstrators.
