Garrett MacLean, a documentary and portrait photographer currently based in San Francisco, has documented the fishing on Lummi Island, a small fishing community on the island of Legoe Bay. The island is one of the few places in the world still practicing this ancient form of fishing. Despite the U.S. government issuing 12 reefnet fishing licenses last year, nine of these fish on LegoeBay. MacLean's project was part of a photo project exploring the passion of the fishermen and their work. The fishing takes place on the ancestral lands of the Lummi Nation and is a fishing practice that dates back thousands of years.
