The New York Mets have been dealing with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the first time since losing All-Star closer Edwin Diaz to them in free agency. Diaz, who had been a fan favorite with the Mets for seven years, signed a three-year, $69 million contract with the Dodgers over the winter. Despite an uneven start with his new team, Diaz is off to a 6.00 ERA through six appearances. The Dodgers had previously signed Tanner Scott, but continued to monitor Diaz's market. The Mets' offer for Diaz was reportedly three years, $66 million with deferrals and a conditional club option for the 2029 season if Diaz has a specified injury through 2028 or undergoes surgery. This is not the only surprising departure of Diaz, as the Mets have seen Jeff McNeil leave in free agent.
