City and county officials are moving to rename the March 31 holiday that honored César Chávez, which coincides with his birthday, as Farm Workers Day. This comes amidst controversy surrounding the late icon's legacy, with two women accusing him of sexual abusing them while they were underage. San Diego County Supervisor Paloma Aguirre has proposed a resolution before the board asking for the federal government and state to renchle the holiday. However, this change requires approval from the City Council. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has signed a proclamation to renade the last Monday of March as "Farm Workers Day" in the city.
