Ohio voters voted in gubernatorial and congressional primaries on May 5, with former GOP presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy winning the Republican gubernatorial primary with 82% and Democrat Amy Acton winning her party's nomination. Other races included a special Senate election to fill a seat vacated when Vice President JD Vance was inaugurated. For lieutenant governor, David Pepper won the uncontested Democratic race, with Ohio Senate President Rob McColley being Ramasweamy's running mate. The 9th district was a highlight of the state's congressional races, with Republican Derek Merrin winning 44.1% of the vote and will face Democrat Rep. Marcy Kaptur for a seat in the U.S. House in November. The results are expected to influence the balance of power in Washington and at home in the Buckeye state.
