The popularity of Michael Jackson's biopic, "Michael," despite accusations of pedophilia, suggests audiences are willing to separate art from the artist. The film's opening weekend saw it make north of $70 million stateside and is now estimated to make nearly $100 million in the U.S., and $200 million worldwide. Despite critics' criticism that the film avoids the damning sexual abuse allegations that haunted Michael Jackson for much of his adult career, audiences are still willing to overlook these issues. This is not the only example of consumers overlooking a flawed star's sins, with C.K. using his fan base to rebuild his career after losing several Hollywood deals and a New York Times report alleging that he exposed himself to several women.
