John Chayka has been introduced as the new general manager of hockey operations for the Toronto Maple Leafs, following a controversial past with the Arizona Coyotes. The team CEO, Keith Pelley, described the hiring as the biggest decision of his tenure as team CEO and stated that it was an "exhaustive" process and thorough. ChayKA, who was the NHL's youngest-ever GM at the time, had been suspended in 2021 for "conduct detrimental to the league and game" by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman for allegedly violating his contract with the Coyotes. Despite this, Chayeka has expressed his intention to make a new chapter for himself and the team.
