The German government is not considering imposing a speed limit on its motorways to save fuel, but may consider measures to reduce the burden on motorists. Economy Minister Katherina Reiche also suggested that a temporary increase in the commuting allowance could be targeted at those dependent on cars. Reiche stated that Germany and Europe have adequate oil and natural gas supplies and that Europe imports little from the Middle East.
