Robert "Ted" Turner III, a media mogul and former Atlanta Braves owner, has passed away at the age of 87. Turner was born in 1938 in Cincinnati and his father, Ed Turner, was a demanding, hard-working man who drank heavily, struggled with depression and beat his son with a razor strap. Turner's first step in building a media empire began in 1963 when he took over his father's billboard business, Turner Outdoor Advertising. His biggest achievement was starting a 24-hour news network, the Cable News Network (CNN). Turner also owned the Atlanta Braves and made Major League Baseball history when he managed the team for one day before being removed. He donated a fortune to charitable causes over his lifetime.
