Boulder City residents protested against a proposed AI data center on 88 acres of open desert as the developer held its first public meeting. The Townsite Solar 2 project, or TS2, is set to bring economic benefits to Boulder City, which is facing a budget gap. The developer, Richard Lammers, stated that the project would bring in $2.6 million in the first year and $1.5 million each year after that, and it would also bring 200-300 jobs during build-out and 25-40 permanent jobs paying over $100,000. However, residents voiced concerns about the environmental impact and potential increases in electric bills. The company has made changes to the plan to use liquid wastewater from the city to cool the building, previously considering purchasing liquid wastewater for cooling, but has now opted for an air-cooled closed-loop system.
