Freaked out mom pulls plug on Amazon’s Alexa after AI bot’s creepy question to tot: ‘No more Alexa in our house’

A Texas mom, Christy Hosterman, has warned other parents to be aware when their child talks to Amazon's Alexa smart speaker, which she believes interrupted her child's bedtime story to ask an inappropriate question. The incident occurred while Christy was using the smart speaker to find a dinner recipe and share a story with her child, Stella, when Stella asked to tell one to the device. The device interrupted Stella's story to inquire about her clothing and asked, "what she was wearing and if it could see her pants." Amazon blamed a technical glitch on a technical issue, but Hosterman disagrees, stating that it's impossible for Amazon employees to insert themselves into conversations as Alexa. The warning comes amid growing concerns about AI-powered toys that could potentially have explicit conversations with children under 12.
