A new bill has been introduced in the House Health and Welfare Committee, which would create a legislative committee to oversee Idaho's federal Rural Healthcare Transformation grants. The bill, which follows a similar version from the Senate, aims to create a seven-person panel overseeing the grants, with at least three of them from a legislative district without a population center of 20,000 or more. The Senate version would include a nonvoting member appointed by Gov. Brad Little. The House version differs slightly, with the House version creating a larger panel with four senators, four House members and a non-voting gubernatorial appointee. Some lawmakers have suggested that Idaho could use the federal funds to cover the cost of new Idaho residencies for medical school graduates and use state funds to subsidize additional medical school seats for Idaho students.
