This comes amid tensions between the US and Spain, with President Donald Trump threatening to cut off trade with Madrid after Spain prevented two jointly operated bases in its territory from being used in strikes against Iran. Despite these criticisms, Cuerposi noted that Spain had been the fastest-growing advanced economy in Europe over the past few years and created 40% of all new jobs in the euro zone last year. He also highlighted that Spain's debt has nearly returned to pre-Covid levels.
