App and website hosting company Vercel has revealed that hackers had accessed some of its customers' data prior to discovering its recent data breach. This indicates that this incident may have broader security implications than initially thought. Vercel initially reported that its internal systems were breached after an employee downloaded an app by software startup Context AI, which hackers abused to gain access to the employee's work account and subsequently, Vercel's systems. The company also discovered more customer accounts after expanding its initial investigation. The hackers have been active beyond Context AI's previous compromise, suggesting they may have targeted valuable tokens like keys to Vercel accounts and other providers.
