Despite an uncontested primary, Collins' campaign held a watch party in Maine to celebrate her nomination. Since taking office in 1997, Collins has not missed a single vote and is the first senator in US history to cast 10,000 votes in a row. If Platner were to unseat Collins, it would take years for him to get a seat on the Appropriations Committee due to the upper chamber's seniority rules.
