AI Battle Heats Up: Judge Weighs Injunction In Anthropic V. Department Of Defense

San Francisco Federal Court District Judge Rita Lin has given Anthropic until 6pm. PST to provide a declaration stating that multiple government agencies have terminated or ceased the use of Anthropic's Claude model due to the Department of Defense's designation as a national security risk. The company has asked Lin to temporarily halt the DOD's decision to blacklist its AI model, Claude, and President Donald Trump's order to prohibit federal agencies from using the technology. The DOD has argued that Anthropic is creating "severe, immediate and irreparable financial and reputational harm" and should not be allowed to make military decisions regarding military missions.
