Official Issues Serious Warning About European Jet Fuel Supplies Ahead of Summer Travel Season

The head of the International Energy Agency (IE), Fatih Birol, has warned that Europe may run out of jet fuel if current supply disruptions continue. This could result in flight cancellations at the height of summer travel. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route for oil and jet fuel exports out of the Persian Gulf, has been closed for over six weeks due to Iranian retaliation against U.S. and Israeli attacks. Europe, which relies heavily on imported fuel, could be particularly vulnerable due to its 75 percent reliance on Middle Eastern imports. However, even if all additional U.D. exports were redirected to Europe, they would only replace only a little over half of the lost Middle Eastern supply.
