Sisters defy stereotypes to carry on family legacy with successful recycling business

Two sisters from Mexico, Bélgica Macías and Vanessa Gallego Luján, have established a successful recycling business in southern Arizona, Recyco. The company processes between 5,000 and 6,000 tons of materials and metals, including aluminum, copper, and steel, and keeps bulky items from ending up in landfills. Their work reduces the need to mine raw materials, reduces energy use, and prevents pollution and land degradation. Despite stereotypes suggesting that recycling and waste management is more traditionally male-dominated, the sisters refuse to abide by these rules.
