As he becomes older, my husband, who has been married for 59 years, has become increasingly self-controlled and lacks a social life due to Alzheimer's disease. He is now doing things inside the house without consulting his wife, and has been washing dirty dishes without soap without asking her permission. This has led to frustration among his wife and mother, who have been watching him clean the house. She suggests suggesting tasks that he could do that don't interfere with her, such as watering the plants, taking out the garbage, and sorting the laundry. Another suggestion is to go with your husband to the senior center to alleviate his anxiety about going somewhere unfamiliar. However, contact the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) for more suggestions about keeping him occupied.
