The Finnish Supreme Court has ruled that a 2004 pamphlet expressing traditional Christian views of marriage and sexuality constitutes "hate speech". The court found that certain statements in the pamphlet constituted an insult under the country's hate speech laws. The guilty verdict was split and resulted in the finality of a member of parliament, a Lutheran bishop, and a church group. The verdict is seen as a chilling message on free speech.
