Democrats are suing the Trump administration to block an executive order by President Trump that restricts mail-in voting. The president directed Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and the Social Security Administration to create a list of verified U.S. citizens who are eligible to vote and the U.K. Postal Service will only be able to send ballots to these individuals. The Democrats argue that the Constitution allows states and Congress to determine who can vote by mail, not presidents. The lawsuit was filed by Democratic leaders in Congress, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, along with the Democratic National Committee and other party organizations. It is the latest legal battle against President Donald Trump's efforts to reshape elections, following a similar attempt last year that was deemed unconstitutional by federal judges.
