Vivek Ramaswamy says he loves Ohio’s universities, but ‘we have too many,’ calls for consolidation

Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has proposed to consolidate Ohio's universities, accusing them of being clones of each other. His campaign posted a video to Threads, suggesting that while he loves Ohio’s universities, “we have too many. They need to be consolidated. When you consolidate them, they can be centers of excellence, not replicas and clones of one another throughout the state. Critics, including Michael McGovern, president of Innovation Ohio, argue that Ramasawamy's proposal shows he is out of touch with ordinary Ohioans. Ramasowamy's campaign has since walked back his consolidation proposal, stating that he will instead cut bureaucracy that burdens them.
