Researchers from the University of Cambridge in the UK have found that recreational drug use may nearly triple the risk of a stroke in under-55s. Participants who recreationally used amphetamines, cocaine, or cannabis were more likely to suffer a stroke than non-users. Those who used amphetamine were found to have the highest risk, with cocaine not far behind. Cannabis use showed a lower but significant stroke risk, in line with heavy alcohol use. The study, which included data from over 100 million individuals, also found that amphetamine use more than doubles the stroke risk in adults across all adult age ranges. For people under 55, the risk is nearly tripled. The research was published in the International Journal of Stroke.
