FCC chair slams Amazon for slow satellite launches after it opposed SpaceX data center plan

The Federal Communications Commission Chairman, Brendan Carr, has criticised Amazon for opposing SpaceX's orbital data center plans while it is falling short of its own satellite deployment milestone. Amazon has urged the FCC to reject a SpaceX application for permission to launch a constellation of up to 1 million low Earth orbit satellites, which would serve as a data center network for artificial intelligence projects. The company has been trying to compete with SpaceX's Starlink service, which currently dominates the internet-from-space market. Scientists have criticized the SpaceX proposal to launch one million satellites into orbit, citing numerous environmental issues such as light pollution, orbital debris, and increased risk of "Kessler syndrome"
