Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been making headlines for its productivity benefits and controversies over data centers across the nation. However, it is estimated that by 2030, around 30% of current jobs will be replaced by AI and automation, with another 60% of these jobs requiring a different skill set from current workers. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science has updated its rules to ban AI work in its Oscars awards, stating that only films “demonstrably performed by humans with their consent” are eligible for the award. The rules change will only allow movie scripts written by humans for award consideration and AI actors will no longer be considered for awards. The most vulnerable job losses include computer programmers, finance and legal support staff, and entry level workers in the fast-food industries and grocery stores. The use of AI in these industries is seen as an effective tool to streamline creative development and marketing, while it is also beneficial for businesses to replace programmers with computer programs that are not paid wages to produce. The El Paso Herald Post does not use AI for its news reporting.
