‘He’s Still Here In Spirit’: Friends And Family Mark First Opening Day Game Without Roger McGovern

The first Opening Day Game of the season was held without the memory of Roger McGovern, who died in January during a snowstorm. Fans who have been attending the Mets' opening day since at least 1994 have been marking this occasion with friends and family marking the first time since McGovern's death. The tailgating area at Citi Field was decorated with a banner and matching t-shirts describing McGovern as "A Floral Park Legend" and "One of God's own angels." The fans have been coming to the opening day games for over a decade and have been doing so long. Despite this, there was cautious optimism among the crowd as they awaited a new season for the Mets.
