Rage Against The Machine was banned indefinitely from Saturday Night Live in 1996 due to an American Flag Projectile incident. The band had been scheduled to perform two songs on the show that night, but only managed to perform one before being banned forever. The incident occurred during a segment on the 2025 Peacock documentary Ladies & Gentlemen…50 Years Of SNL. Guitarist Tom Morello recalled that the band was locked in their room by the Secret Service and that the balled-up American flag projectile was perceived as a threat against a presidential candidate. After their ban, the band never returned to SNL and may have been placed on a secret service watchlist.
