Olivia Troye, a former adviser to Vice President Mike Pence, has announced a Democratic bid for Congress in Virginia's proposed new 7th District. She publicly broke with the Republican Party in 2020, arguing that Donald Trump had failed to adequately represent the country. Since then, Troye has become an outspoken critic of the GOP and was a featured speaker at the 2024 Democratic National Convention. She is the first candidate to declare for the race in the proposed new district, pending a redistricting referendum.
