Elgin police officer Jason Lentz, who is awaiting disciplinary action for a social media post encouraging ICE immigration efforts in Elgin, has been granted permanent disability benefits by the Elgin Police Pension Board. Lentz applied for the disability pension on Oct. 16 after he was put on administrative leave for a Facebook post suggesting locations in the area where ICE agents could find undocumented immigrants. The pension board, which operates independently of the city and the police department, approved Lentz's application on Feb. 24 based on medical evaluations conducted by three physicians selected by the board. Despite a recommendation by the city's Civilian Review Board that Lentz should be fired, the pension board decided that LentZ qualifies for a disability pension. It is unclear whether the final decision on Lentz’s job standing or pension will impact his future.
