The creator and EP of Malcolm in the Middle, Linwood Boomer and Tracy Katsky, have shared their experiences behind the show's revival, which is now available to stream on Hulu. The couple were inspired by their own experiences raising their own four children, which are three out of four of whom are queer. The revival includes the addition of Malcolm’s non-binary sibling Kelly, whom his mom Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) discovered she was pregnant in the 2006 finale. In addition to Boomer's mother's influence in creating Lois, he and Statsky have also included elements of their own parental journey in the revival. In the episode, Frankie Muniz reprises his teenage character, who is now a father of his own.
