The film was a remake of a 1943 Victor Fleming picture and Spielberg remade it with Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter, and John Goodman. Despite critics calling it one of Spielberg's worst films, "Always," which is considered a departure from his usual fare, is well-received for its sensitive and sentimental portrayal. However, it is also considered one of the best versions of "A Guy Named Joe" and is criticized for being too bland.
