The History Museum in South Bend, Indiana, has published newspaper excerpts from the past week, including one from 1904 when a building at 117 North main street collapsed due to workmen working on conduits. The building, owned by James A. Judie, is believed not to be in a dangerous condition. In 1911, the west end playgrounds on West Division street were opened due to efforts of the Sociology club and donors. In 1940, a 13-year-old girl was rescued by Fireman Cecil McHenry from an injured finger due to a stuck floor wax can. In 1922, high school student Joseph Skoving will be visiting Chicago for a two-day visit at the Pageant of Progress exposition. In 1930, Elkhart's lone tree sitter, Jimmy Ianarelli, completed 409 hours in a tree in front of the Sunnyside pool room on Harrison street.
