The Silver Room Block Party, one of Chicago's signature summer festivals, is returning this year at a new location, the Salt Shed on July 18. This follows the cancellation of the event in 2023 due to rising costs at Oakwood Beach. The festival, which began in Wicker Park and moved to 53rd Street in Hyde Park in 2000, has been a key event for Chicago's Black creative community. Organizer Eric Williams plans to tie the event to the country's 250th anniversary and not to receive federal funding.
