Death of 'very loved' teen killed in Chicago Lawn hit and run marks second bicycle fatality of year

The death of 18-year-old Damian Gomez, identified as Gomez, marks the second fatal bicycle fatality of the year. The crash occurred around 1:20 a.m. on Sunday in Chicago Lawn, where the driver of a red Ford Explorer ran a red light and hit Gomez, riding a bike, before colliding with a silver 2006 Honda Civic. The impact caused the silver car to land on top of Gomez, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV fled the scene on foot before responding officers arrived. No arrests have been made. This is not the first time a cyclist has been killed in a crash this year, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
