Navy reservist David Varela, the husband of Lina M. Guerra Echavarria, has been arrested after a 2-month international manhunt. Echvarria was reported missing on February 2 and found dead in her kitchen three days later, her death was ruled a homicide. Her husband, who has family in Colombia, was charged with her murder and had not previously been arrested for the crime as authorities believed he had fled the country. The FBI announced via X on April 15 that he had been apprehended overseas and is expected to be extradited. The victim's family claims that Vareala was jealous and wouldn't let his wife work, have friends, study, or go out alone.
