Delays in Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) renewals in California are causing job losses, loss of benefits, and deportation risks. Recipients, who have been receiving DACA status for 10 years, are one of over 144,000 in California experiencing months-long delays in their renewal processes. The delays are also affecting other aspects of their lives. Some recipients may still be able to drive under AB-60, but this does not replace the benefits lost when DACA expires. Congresswoman Doris Matsui has seen a sharp increase in requests for help with delayed DACA and work authorization renewals. The delay is blamed on deliberate targeting by the Trump Administration for illegal immigrants. DACA does not confer any form of legal status in the country.
