The Indiana General Assembly's generosity has resulted in the city of Michigan City receiving eight new liquor licenses, largely due to the state's generosity. The city's district surrounding its 11th Street station is seeing several new restaurants and a cultural trail leading to destinations such as Washington Park, Indiana Dunes National Park’s Mount Baldy. Residents are expected to start moving into the Flaherty & Collins building attached to the train station in August. The Gary Redevelopment Director, Chris Harris, also announced that his city is preparing for the new Lake County Convention Center, with a contract likely to be awarded by the end of April. Meanwhile, Gary is working with the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District to ensure platform heights line up correctly for the train tracks. Other developments include demolition work in partnership with the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority, connections to the city's downtown and connections to Dunes Park from downtown and the Lake Street corridor. The Indiana Brownfields Program is providing assistance for communities seeking help with brownfields through environmental investigations, investigations, and assistance for the contamination of underground storage tanks.
