Bonita Gibson, Michigan's oldest resident, passed away at the age of 114 on March 10. Born in 1911 in Hoxie, Kansas, Gibson lived through two world wars, the Great Depression, the rise of modern technology, and major events. She was believed to be the fifth-oldest person in the world and second oldest in the United States at the time of her death. Gibson held the title of Michigan’s oldest living person for nearly four years following the death of 114-year-old Irene Dunham. She attributed her long life to eating potatoes, staying positive, healthy habits and avoiding smoking and drinking.
