Melissa Gilbert, the wife of actor Timothy Busfield, has expressed confidence in her husband's innocence in the case of four counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor. The allegations stem from alleged incidents on the New Mexico set of the Fox/Warner Bros TV series The Cleaning Lady. Gilbert appeared with Busfield's attorney, Larry Stein, to defend the actor against the charges. She also commented on references in the criminal complaint to two women who accused Busfield of sexual assault in 1994 and 2012 and that he settled one of the cases. The prosecution has argued that the alleged touching was first reported by a therapist, not the parents, and that the parents of the twin child actors blamed him when their sons were recast.
