Through friendship, 2 women take on life‑altering challenges

Susan Robus and Laurel Ridenbaugh, two women who met at a YMCA, formed a close friendship after meeting during a period of personal hardship. Ridenable, who became blind due to glaucoma, was seeking companionship and Robus, a cancer survivor, found a kindred spirit. The two women are now nearly inseparable, coordinating YMca workout trips, planning outings, traveling, and generally friend-ing. Despite the one-sided nature of their relationship, they maintain a one-side perspective. They plan to travel together next winter and will pay for a cruise next spring.
