Vidal Macchia, the 10th-grader and brother of BYU runner and Olympic hopeful Zariel MacChia, has achieved success both on the track and tennis. He is currently competing independently at the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia in June. Steeplechase is his strongest event, having posted the nation’s best time at the 2024 Nike Outdoor Nationals as an eighth grader and recently qualified nationally with a 6:06.9 finish. His tennis skills also include a personal first on the tennis court this spring, aiming to make the state level in 2025. Despite his athletic success, Vidal is unsure whether he will pursue either the running or tennis.
