Six U.S. Western allies have announced their support for a potential coalition to reopen the strait of Hormuz for commercial ships and oil tankers. The statement does not include any commitments to send naval vessels or other resources to reopen this. This is a gesture aimed at placating President Trump, who has criticized allies for not helping reopen the Strait. The White House has been using military and diplomatic means to resolve the issue, including strikes on Iranian anti-ship positions near the Strait of Hermuz. The allies condemned Iran's attacks on commercial vessels in the Gulf and on civilian infrastructure, calling for an end to the war. However, France, Germany, Italy and Japan have all previously ruled out sending naval vessels to the Strait.
