Huntsville biotech boom draws national security focus

The National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology (NSCEB) and other agencies have highlighted the importance of the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology in helping to secure America's national security. The commission's 2025 Action Plan, which includes 49 recommendations, found that the U.S. risks losing its biotech edge to China and recommends an investment of at least $15 billion over five years to stay competitive. The report also highlighted the need for investment in biotechnology infrastructure and data as critical infrastructure amid the threat of adversaries and malicious actors. Additionally, the commission highlighted the cyber security training provided by HudsonAlpha, partnering with UAH's Center for Cybersecurity Research and Education.
